School is a great place where children can tutor, meet and make new friends and associates but this is not free from stress. Relevant peer pressure bullying and conflicts are among the issues that many students have to encounter. Nevertheless, in our school, there are options and interventions toward challenges indicated in the Preventing and Countering Violence and Intolerance in Schools Survey and the establishment of school environments that are safe and conducive for learning for any student.

Understanding Peer Pressure:

This includes having to be forced to be like other people in the way one moves, talks or even thinks. continue It can be positive and contribute positively to people’s lives- promoting physical fitness for example or negative and leading people to engage in risky activities. Peer pressure means the conditions in which peers compel other peers to develop specific ways of thinking and acting.

Also, students often follow the crowd and to be accepted by others it is normal to get involved in negative things. For instance, the learner may drop out, become truant, drop out or turn to alcohol and other marshal substances as a way of belonging. Thus, schools are fully aware of the fact that peer pressure has to be fought starting from the early years.

One of them is to ensure that schools facilitate the negative school climate, learners diversity, and worth of learners. Most of the teachers and staff address the students on the issue of peer pressure and ensure that it is conveyed to the students that they are being pressured and they can stand to reject it.

Conflict Resolution:

This just means the capacity of a given individual to perform a given task. This implies, for example, handling quarrels in a manner that does not imply a percentage of fault but a manner that tries to determine blameless approaches to relating to such discord. This demonstrates how every person has some issues that need to be addressed up to some level for the theory of equity and balance to triumph.

This is especially true concerning conflicts. This means that one can present his needs and problems effectively and, on the same note, work on listening to the needs of the other person. The practices that are involved in the process of identifying the options, having multiple voices, and selecting by coming up with a middle ground is the social process. Possibly it could be good to be prepared to lose something in other to get something.

It is to seek an accommodation whereby neither of the disputants can proceed with the case unless he or she receives the approval of the other party about the solution. By mastering these skills, the students can control their differences without necessarily leading to a fight and at the same time improve their relationships with their counterparts.

Strategies to address bullying:

  • Teasing is also a big problem which hurts students and may considerably influence their psychological condition. It exists in six different types of aggressiveness; physical, vocal, and digital aggression, and social, aggressive, and emotional bullying. Bullying is considered to be a very serious issue in schools and thus many schools have put measures to curb the situation.
  • A typical way is to include anti-bullying programs that are aimed at making students aware of the kinds of bullying practices and their consequences. Such programs are run through a series of awareness creations through dramas, lectures and mock dramas where students are taken through aspects of showing kindness or care to fellow students or respecting other people’s property.
  • Schools also advise students to report cases of bullying if they have realized or been victimized by somebody into bullying. Some establishments have reporting systems that allow students to give information without revealing their identity to culprits.

Promoting conflict resolution skills:

  • Struggles are inevitable in life and that is why children should always be taught the proper and most healthy ways to deal with conflicts. To prevent the incidence of violence in schools, various programs and initiatives are incorporated into teaching conflict resolution to students.
  • One is using skills such as active listening and ways of better expression of emotions among the students. The ability to communicate effectively that is provided to students by the schools also assists them in expressing themselves and solving such issues in a friendly manner.
  • Another successful technique is peer mediation which is one of the students who solve the conflict with the participation of a teacher or counsellor. Peer mediators are considered impartial persons who are involved in overseeing the talking and assisting students in searching for an agreement. Not only does it deal with the conflict but it also fosters students into assuming conflict solvers or peacemakers in their school.
  • It is an initiative that gives schools all the materials and knowledge needed to apply conflict resolution on the playground. This involves ensuring students are trained in group tasks, singing and dancing that encourage togetherness and discourage rivalry and in addition offer staff training for students’ conflict solutions.
  • It has been derived from research that schools which adhere to the usage of the Peaceful Playground program have recorded a reduction of playground-related fighting incidences coupled with improved friendly student interaction. Such an environment is filled with mutual understanding and respect, which results in the student having key social skills which they will apply throughout their lifetimes.
